I Know Who’s Buried in Grant’s Tomb

I spent a fabulous week in New York City in early-mid March. I was there partially for work, partially for fun, and partially to learn to despise Delta Airlines (more on that in another posting).

Now that I’m obsessed with presidential homes and graves, New York provided a great two-fer in Theodore Roosevelt’s birthplace and Grant’s tomb. But, I also visited a few non-presidential sites as well.

I’m proud of myself because I overcame my irrational fear of riding the subway and used it almost primarily to get around (I walked quite a bit, too, because the weather was gorgeous for three-fourths of the trip).

We Gave Our Weekend for Tourism

I totally missed blogging about a trip we took in September to Indianapolis and Springfield, Illinois. But, it was a great trip and deserves a mention here.

We drove in a pouring rain to the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis to see the King Tut Exhibit. I remember wanting so badly to see it back in the ’70s, partly because Egypt and mummies fascinated me, but mostly because I had Steve Martin’s A Wild and Crazy Guy album and used to play the crap out of it. (I have no idea why my parents would buy this album for a little kid, but my brother and I used to repeat stuff from it all the time, having no idea what we were even talking about, e.g., “He kept wanting her to sing from her diaphragm. That would take years to learn.”) Anyway, the exhibit totally lived up to all that Steve said.
